Frequently Asked Questions

Are your pots food safe?

Unless otherwise noted, all pots are food safe.

Are your pots dishwasher and microwave safe?

I recommend that you wash your pieces by hand (though my mom cleans hers in the dishwasher with no ill effect). Warm water and mild dish soap are best.

Pots are also safe for microwaves.

What type of clay do you use?

The pieces are made with a mid-fire brown clay.

What makes the speckles speckled?

The clay contains grog, which are bits of fired clay that are mixed into the raw clay to add structure and durability when throwing. When fired, certain glazes (especially light-colored glazes) allow the iron oxide to bleed through, giving the final piece its speckled appearance.

What is the process for making a piece?

Each piece is thrown on a potter’s wheel. The clay is then allowed to dry to a “leather hard” consistency, at which point I flip them over, trim away any excess clay from the base of the piece, and use various tools to add carvings and texture to the surface of the pot. Once the pieces have been trimmed and carved, they are allowed to air dry completely, before being biscuit fired in the kiln to remove any excess moisture and form a ceramic surface. Next, they are glazed by hand, before receiving one final turn in the kiln, where the glaze fuses to the clay and melts to form glass.

What is your return policy?

All pieces are final sale, unless the item arrives damaged. However, if for some other reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact me so that we can find a solution together.
